This case study reveals how Aker BP overcame operational challenges and ensured continuity during COVID-19 by harnessing real-time data through IDEX.
In Spring 2020, complex offshore operations required specialist support. However, the operations faced challenges with getting all the experts to the field which threatened the continuity/viability of the projects.
Having all the relevant real time data from the operations, reliably displayed in tailored dashboards, enabled remote support. Therefore, some of the experts remained onshore and were able to advise the offshore team during the operations.
The IDEX platform enabled continuity in the Stimulation operation, saving time and cost. The complex pumping was performed successfully with onshore experts guiding the operation through the critical steps.

During the Coronavirus 2020 pandemic, state-imposed travel restrictions blocked borders, and quarantine periods impacted operations. Some of the specialists from overseas, who were planned to support the stimulation operation, were unable to get offshore or even into the country. This could have slowed down the operation, however Aker BP already had the Stimline IDEX platform enabled so they were able to rely on remote support from onshore experts. All necessary data was streamed to intervention-specific real time dashboards ensuring that decisions were based on the latest information.
Complex operations were made possible during these challenging times as well, such as a pumping job with a very strict pressure window of opportunity between success and failure. The specialists who could support this operation did not have the ability to go offshore. Stimline’s IDEX platform was able to overlay well and pumping data in real-time to give the experts the tools necessary to advise the operations remotely. They were able to easily access the IDEX cloud platform from home and monitor the data, guiding the operations and hence, providing live support from onshore.
